Aloha everyone!
It's Friday, which means that over at An Island Life it is time for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So on Fridays we take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, she asks a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. Then everyone else asks a simple question of their own blog for others to answer.
In my early teens my mom got The Jane Fonda workout Challenge. It had it all folks - leg warmers, headbands, mood lighting, snappy little tunes, and french cut leotards. I was a little suspect BUT it was really good workout as long as NOBODY witnessed me doing it. I still have the VHS tape and when I need a little pick-me-up (a good laugh), I pop it in. My kids wonder what is wrong with the "dancing people" but try to dance along. I see they have clips of it on YouTube. Good, clean fun!
I recently got rid of dozens of exercise videos. They were terrible. I was always in search of a keeper. You know, one that gives you a complete work out in, oh, about 10 minutes. The only ones I have kept, besides my original Jane, are the Cindy Crawford , the next challenge. A nice workout for legs, arms, lower back, abs.....without all the dancing around. It's pretty low impact. The old Tae-Bo Advanced workout which gives a good aerobic activity. I've tried a bunch of his newer stuff and I still liked this the best. And the Kathy Smith Step video - which is basic and boring but I could do it while I was pregnant and can do the first two levels with a bjorned baby on my front (have I mentioned she has issues with down time).
So here is my question:
Can you recommend any exercise video that is worth purchasing? There are days that I just would rather not go to the gym!

I'll leave you with this....
I get bored easily with the exercise videos and the gym, but I love to fitness walk. It never bores me.
ReplyDeleteSorry I can't recommend an exercise video as I don't use them, or go to the gym. For exercise I do exercise I learned in PT (for hips problems) and I walk a lot.
ReplyDeleteworth watching? you mean you dont exercise with it you just watch?
ReplyDeleteWe still have the old Tae Bo DVDs and I should take them out one of these day. Have you tried your library to see what they have to try before buying. I was looking at a new one the other day that I saw on the Fitness Channel being previewed. I thought it was interesting and I know it has been advertised a lot.Good luck in your search.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me... I am a video junky for excersise stuff. I get suckered in every time. I have the Tae-bo from long ago and always liked it. I also love my Windsor Pilates but you either like pilates or hate it. Their is no middle ground with that one. Last year I bought my husband P90X and I just started doing some of it myself. I did one two days ago and I can barely sit down I hurt so much. Great work out but it is an hour long and a killer.
ReplyDeleteI just recently bought Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred at the recommendation of a friend. It has 3 20 min. workouts on it and I have only done the Level 1 workout and that one is hard! A good workout in 20 min. I still like my Taebo videos too. I used to have the Cindy Crawford ones, I wish I hadn't gotten rid of them. I remember doing a Claudia Schiffer Legs workout at the sorority house with lots of laughs involved. i don't know if we ever got a good leg workout, but our abs were probably awesome because of all of the laughing! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't do the videos. I don't know if I have a short attention span or what, but they bore me to tears! I just grab my ipod and hit the treadmill instead! How about one of those pole dancing exercise videos, that should be .. um, interesting?
ReplyDeleteGo w/ the Leslie Sansone videos. She is a walking queen & it's fun!
ReplyDeleteMy exercise DVDs are collecting dust. My preference is to watch Spanish cooking shows . . . which brings us back to the need of exercise DVDs. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThis may sound like cheating, but I really love our new Wii Fit! I've never been one to go workout at the gym, so Wii Fit is perfect for me! It's fun, but I know it's working because I get sore muscles too!
ReplyDeleteI just walk allthough my doctor recomended a stationary bike when I cant walk
ReplyDeleteI can't say that I would ever do an exercise video. Sorry no help. But we do have a Wii fit, you might consider that.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna say Flirty Girl! Not only do you get in shape, have a blast, you learn some sexy chair dancing, pole dancing and strip tease for your hubby! LOL
ReplyDeleteI like the Moms Into Fitness Baby Bootcamp series--I just started this after my son was born--I like it because they have a variey of different workouts that can be mixed and matched so you don't get bored. Also, they are short--about 20 minutes for busy moms!
ReplyDeleteI really like Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout. It's from the 90's but it's a great workout, even if you just do the first 30 minutes, which is what I usually do. Karen voight BLT on a ball and Firm arms and abs are good too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but no. I am no good at doing exercise videos at home-too many distractions. I do a lot better just going to the gym.
ReplyDeleteI was really hooked on Tae-bo for a while. And, they were effective workouts. I like that you don't stop moving, there is not down-time.
ReplyDeleteI can! I can! Well I can recommend a few. I'm a big Denise Austin fan and even though I want to flick the guy's head the 8 minute series is good too. Especially the 8 minute abs. From Denise Austin I love the Power Yoga Plus {yoga and pilates} and her Shrink Your Female Fat Zones.
ReplyDeleteI just got a Wii fit for a {very} belated birthday present, so I'm trying that out as well :) And the Flirty Girl Fit dvds look fun, though I haven't ordered them yet ;)
Right now we are hooked on Wii Fit.
ReplyDeleteOur grandchildren ages 3, 5 & 8 are also doing it.
I have all the Tae Bo, The Firm and Biggest Losers etc. there are 2 I really really love. They are really old, but I still love them. They are from Susan Powter. I know I know, but I like them and they are still the ones I do the most.
ReplyDeleteBuilding Strength because it's a full body workout
Movin' because it's a really good step workout!
I think a yoga or belly dancing video would be a great alternative workout. The result is sexy lean muscles. Perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it yet but I hear from everyone that Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred is awesome. Thanks for being my blog follower!
ReplyDeleteIf you want some really hard workouts, try anything by Cathe Fredrich, she is pretty intense, with tons of plyo moves. I always feel pretty beat up after her!
