A Wedding is Coming! A Wedding is Coming!

Toppers!
I made these out of clay instead of fondant so they could keep them.

Top tier of cupcake stand where the giant cupcake will sit!
The bride put this together because we had to rig the cupcake stand so it would work.  LOVE this.

And lots of flowers!

The wedding is on Friday.
I'll share the finished product then :)

Ruffles!

It's on the imperfect side of things but I have a good handle on how to make it better next time.
HERE is the completed cake.

How to Make an Oreo Cake

The birthday boy requested an Oreo soccer cake and this is what I came up with.
It's not much of a tutorial because it's so easy :)

The Oreos are all anchored with buttercream.

I didn't mind if the buttercream was sloppy for this one because it was a soccer field and I was going to have grass coming out of all the seems anyways.  If you wanted a cleaner edge presentation, don't use as much buttercream.  Simply a dab on the bottom of each will hold it in place.

Spread the top with a layer of buttercream.  I wanted to be able to see the Oreo layer so I didn't go all the way to the edge.

I added the soccer field lines as well as "grass" to the sides using the Wilton grass tip.

The players were purchased from a cake supply store.

The Oreos were slightly softened by the buttercream so we could cut into it like a slice of cake.  The presentation made for a very pretty slice of cake!

My New Cake

This cake is completely appropriate for Florida today.  As Hurricane Irene passed us by, the waves were 15 feet yesterday, 12 feet today.  That's huge for us.  See the complete cake HERE.

Not Much But a Cake

This week was pre-plan week for preschool (we start on Monday!).  I have been so crazy busy and haven't had much time to blog.  I can imagine it will be like this a lot this year.  I did make a cake for my niece last night.  I didn't have a lot of notice so was happy to spy this design on flickr.  Can you tell what it is?  The full cake is HERE.

I need some cooking inspiration, and loved when we were doing the Food Network Chefs Cooking Challenge.  It pushed my limits.  Are any of you currently doing any cooking challenges?

New Cake

This is my third cake within a week with another scheduled for next Friday. Each time we bake, Little Bit's first question is, "Is this for us?". She sees so many cakes leave the house without so much as a bite. I do let her lick the frosting off the mixer paddle :) She thinks that is just as good.

Check out my new cake at SarahBakes.

Elephant Cake

This morning I made this cake for my niece, whose only request is that it had marshmallows on it. She had been at my daughter's birthday party last month and saw that I used marshmallows for the Hippo's toes. Easy enough! The elephant had marshmallow toes :)

I guess she won't mind that I used marshmallows to prop up the ears. I didn't have enough advanced notice to make ears and let them dry so they could stand on their own. SO.....marshmallow propping will have to do :)
