I got these alarming statistics from an article on Donald Miller's Blog and have a hard time believing them. Do people REALLY not read? Ever? As a teacher I often heard that some students didn't have any books at home. None. I cannot wrap my mind around that.
According to Para Publishing, 1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives. And 42% of college graduates follow suit. 70% of U.S. adults have not stepped into a bookstore in the last 7 years and 80% of American families did not purchase or read a book last year.
what? I don't get it...
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad! We are regulars at the library and my husband utilizes paperbackswap for his book addictions :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT?!?!?!? How can that be? That is really sad to think about...We read every night as a family and everyday from our own personal books. I cannot imagine never reading....
ReplyDeleteYikes! I can see the not going to a bookstore, especially if you utilize the library and the second-hand shops, but... to never read another book again?! NUTS!
ReplyDeleteI can believe it. My dad and sister don't read books ever. It's sad!
