Kids in the Kitchen - Independent Play

Mimi got a mini baking kit (cutters, rolling pin, etc.) for her birthday and has been asking me all week to let her make cookies. I'm not sure if this really counts as cooking...but I let them do whatever they wanted with this....

They didn't have much luck with the cookie cutters so they made free form cookies.

I really am getting better with my "letting go" issues and let them do whatever they wanted without trying to get them to make them the right way my way.

Here Mimi is trying to convince me why she should eat the last bit of raw cookie dough.

They were very proud of their cookies and more importantly they had fun doing it. I couldn't resist going over the end result with Bigs..."What can you do next time so they don't all bake together? What can you do so they bake evenly? What can you...." you get the picture. I know, but I'm trying!

  3. It is hard to step away at times. Mine is reaching two and she is already wanting to do things on her own. I am learning to back away and let her go for it. I am having my Round Robin tomorrow if you want to stop by.

  4. Your girls are so cute! Good for you for letting them go at it! They will enjoy cooking more that way I think! Although I can totally relate!
