3 Thing and Thousand Word Thursday

Cheaper Than Therapy holds A Thousand Word Thursday each week. Go visit to check out other pictures! Michelle over at Psalm 104:24 hosts Three Things This Thursday. I like to do them together. Randomness and pictures.

1. Weather Radios: How many people do these actually help...and how many people are like me? On Tuesday our weather radio went off numerous times throughout the night giving me a possible heart attack each time. I know the thing has volume control but quiet is not an option. Each time I frantically dove to the radio pressing every button I could to make it stop (picture you and your alarm clock in college). Only one time during the night did I look at the display and read TORNADO. I told my husband that there is a tornado warning (he cannot recall this). And we both went back to sleep in a matter of seconds. So when I woke up and see this.... "A possible tornado ripped the roofs off several homes late Tuesday in (THE CITY I LIVE) and sent a tree crashing into a house near (ANOTHER CITY) as a system of severe storms continued across the peninsula, officials confirmed early today." I am wondering the merits of this device. Even though I ignore it I won't unplug it. But I honestly cannot believe a weather radio because tornadoes and other natural disasters are things that happen to other people. I know, wait until I find out this is not always true. And besides, we don't have basements so there isn't a great place to go if one did hit. So do you listen to your weather radio?

2. Summer TV: I have never been a huge TV watcher (except sports) until the birth of my third baby. She isn't a crib sleeper. She is a "I won't sleep in anything but Mommy's arms" sleeper. You don't have to tell me how that might affect her later on....I've heard it all. Most evenings she falls asleep around 8...and I can either go to bed or do something that requires no movement whatsoever. I have watched more TV in the last 10 months since my college days (you are getting a glimpse of my laid back college experience today). I am now hooked on 24, How I Met Your Mother, Biggest Loser, 90210 (ahem, college BH 90210 junkie - the whole sorority would watch it before bar time), and America's Next Top Model. I have always watched football and baseball but this year I have even watched lots of Magic games (Woo Hoo). I am, however, excited that they have all had their season finales and I am free to watch, or not watch, whatever I want. I know, I am free when they are in season as well...but come on.

3. Pictures!!! Lemon teether, SO BIG, Get me out of this thing!

  1. I don't have a weather radio. I did sleep through tornado sirens once though. I LOVE TV...but have reduced how much I watch it. I DVR everything and watch when I get a chance. My youngest also likes to sleep with us and he's 2. I'm sure he'll grow out of that.

  4. I don't have a weather radio either. Mostly because I don't or haven't lived in areas that would require swift and immediate action. I don't know how people handle tornadoes. They scare me so much. As for the tv, I have my moments too. I don't watch as much tv as when I was back in the states, the programming here in Chile is horrible. I do watch cable through a "slingbox" hooked at my parents house, and I can watch over the internet. It's pretty cool, but the time zones are different so I don't watch too much, still. OH, and your baby...gorgeous! But you knew that already. I used to have a bumbo too, pretty handy little seat. Have a great day!

  7. We have a scanner in our house. We have a loud siren that goes off when they call the firemen in. So we always play it to see what is going on. When the weather is bad we keep it on and know what is going on. I have to say I love it. My little one is a total cuddle bug also. She wants to be right there with me. I love those moments. Yeah you watch 90201. I thought I was the only one doing it. I am in shock and I am glad I had it on DVR. I had to reply the ending twice to really see what happen. Crazy. Does the lemon help with teething?

  8. I just wanted to tell you my son was the same way. For the first month of his life he demanded to be held 24/7. He slept in my lap at nap time until he was about 1.5. We cosleep and at 3 years old he got his own bed, next to ours. First dh slept with him and then he slept there by himself, no big deal. Then last week we moved him to his own room. It was so completely undramatic. There was no freaking out, he doesn't even crawl into our bed late at night. So for all the horrible stories people tell you about how they'll never sleep on their own without a fight, here is a good one telling you it will be alright.

  10. I would be happy to offer any photography tips for sewing help! :-) Keep in mind that I'm still learning myself, and I take plenty of duds. Tip #1: Try a different angle. Sometimes, to get the perfect shot, you have to lay on the floor or underneath a swing. Digital is pretty awesome too because you can shoot from the hip, and if it turns out, great, and if it doesn't, you delete it. Shutter Sisters is a great site for inspiration.

As for the rest, it's all about playing with your camera and figuring out what your camera can do. Most recently, I've been working on my aperture skills (the whole fuzzing the background technique).

BTW, "How I Met Your Mother" is one of my favorite shows! I Tivo that one to watch after the girls are in bed. "Scrubs" is another fun show.

  11. No sirens in my neck of the woods, but I'm getting into My Boys.

I wish they made bumbos for adults :) Maybe they do and I don't know it?? :)
